Welcome
to the 2012 Porterville Fair!
A cornerstone event in Southeastern
Tulare County since 1948, the Porterville Fair is one of
the last true community fairs in California.
From it's modest beginnings at Porterville High School,
the Fair has been at it's present location since 1951 and
has steadily grown and expanded with the surrounding communities.
The original 3 member Board of Directors has progressed
to a 16 member working Board representing farming, ranching,
educators, and business leaders from a service area encompassing
Lindsay to Ducor and Poplar to Springville.
The new
25 acre Porterville Fair Grounds is located on west Teapot
Dome and will celebrate 2011 beginning with the
Sierra
Winter Classic in January showcasing superior junior
beef exhibitors. The show currently boasts over 200 head
of beef animals awarding over $7,000 in cash and prizes.
The
Orange Blossom Klassic follows in February and attracts
over 400 top market goats, swine and sheep exhibitors.
The annual
Fair
in May provides over 2000 4-H and FFA junior exhibitors
the opportunity to show off their wares ranging from cakes
to cattle and rockets to rabbits. Always a highlight, the
Livestock Auction on Saturday of the Fair has generated
approximately 8 million dollars
to the youth of our community since 1980 alone. Buyers
at the Auction represent every facet of the community, and
their generosity over the years have helped untold thousands
of youngsters experience the rewards of hard work and dedication
fostered by the 4-H and FFA programs.
The fair currently brings in an annual
attendance of 64,000.
